THIRD EYE BLIND LEAD STEPHAN JENKINS PERFORMS AT ROCK BAR IN BALI AHEAD OF RELEASE OF LATEST ALBUM

Stephan Jenkins, lead vocalist of American alternative rock band Third Eye Blind (3eb), last night treated fans to a special, intimate performance at the Rock Bar, the stunning new open-top bar built on natural rocks above the Indian Ocean in Bali.

Perched on a rocky ‘stage’ jutting out from the cliff-face, Jenkins gave a solo performance of tracks from the band’s new album ‘Ursa Major’, their first album in six years. He also granted audience requests to play some of their past hits including ‘Deep Inside You’ and ‘Semi Charmed Life’.

The frontman of the two-time Grammy-nominated band was in Bali after headlining Indonesia's largest music festival, Java Rockin Land, where 3eb played to some 22,000 people. He made a spontaneous decision to play at the Rock Bar for local fans, as he prepared to re-group with the rest of the band to officially release their new album on August 18 in the US. The band is scheduled to do three shows in San Francisco, New York and West Virginia within the next 10 days.

“We came to Bali for the surfing and diving, and this is one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever seen,” Jenkins said. “We’ve worked really hard on the new album and are now heading back to the States to officially release it.”

Jenkins’ performance at the Rock Bar was followed by DJ Zoe Noa (Supper Club, Amsterdam) and Japanese saxophonist Chika Asamoto, while fire breathers performed on rocks amidst the ocean.

A ‘must-see’ for every visitor to Bali, the Rock Bar is an innovative open-top bar perched 14 meters above the ocean on a rocky outcrop at the base of AYANA’s towering cliffs.

Accessed via an inclinator that traverses the cliff-face, it is a spectacular feat of architecture and engineering. Designed by Yasuhiro Koichi of Japan’s Design Studio SPIN, whose works include NOBU Tokyo and NOBU Hong Kong, it offers uninterrupted, 360-degree views from every single vantage point.

A DJ booth is located high amongst the rocks in front of the bar, with an outdoor Bose stereo system to cater for special events and functions.

The small tapas-style food menu includes dishes such as Rock Lobster Spring Rolls and Rockfish Ceviche served on natural stone ‘plates’. Imaginative desserts include the ‘Pearls of Passion’ white chocolate truffles served on a mother-of-pearl plate, and ‘Cigar and Port’, consisting of a chocolate mousse-filled ‘cigar’ presented in a stone ‘ashtray’ and accompanied by port berries served in a glass.

The cocktail list includes more than 40 classic and contemporary creations such as Lychee Ginger Spring, Balinese Slipper, Mangotini and the sublime Pink Orchid made with Vanilla Vodka.
